Excerpts

A prayer from "Praying With Peter"

The Pride of Life

For all that is of the world...the pride of life-
is not of the Father but is of the world.
(1 John 2:16c)

Lord, thank You for Your Word which was inspired by Your Holy Spirit. Help us to understand and discern correctly what You mean in Your Word. When You spoke of the "world" and of the things of the world, You were also speaking of Satan and those things under his domain, sins such as the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.

How often am I motivated to do or not to do something because of the wrong kind of pride? I am not immune from Satan's devices for I still am a human living in a world full of sin. Lord, forgive my pride, and help me grow in humility. I want to grow in the kind of humility that comes from knowing You and loving You deeply. Hold me close to You today. Teach me again, Your discernment so that I may continue to live in the world but not be a part of it. In Jesus' name. Amen.

A prayer from "Praying Through First John"

Eternal Word

..."But the Word of the Lord endures forever."
Now this is the word which by the gospel was
preached to you.
(1 Peter 1:25)

O Holy Father, how I thank You for the light of this new day. The warmth of the sun streaming through the windowpane is only one reminder of the edifying warmth in this exciting time set aside to fellowship with You. Thank You for the assurance in my heart that Your Word is accompanied with Your presence. Fill me to overflowing during this quiet time of worship, expectancy, and awesome adoration. I wait upon You, Lord.

Thank You that the Word of the Lord endures forever. Thank You that Jesus is the Word and in Him all fullness dwells. When I think of the Word, which by the Gospel is preached, I'm reminded that we all may become Your preachers as we ask You to fill us daily with the power of the Gospel. Help us to be ministers today in our needy world. And dear Lord, along with our proclamations, let there be the powerful love of Jesus that reverberates with Your reconciliation, compassion, mercy, and understanding.

I pray, sweet Jesus, that my prayers may lead to definitive actions today. Activate my hands and feet in response to the motivation in my heart. I pray in Your name. Amen.
